Nontrad Spotlight: Kimberly Hobbs
January 2008

kimmy
Kimberly Hobbs is a mother of 3. Her children are Jerod, 17; Chrissy, 14; and Bradley, 9. She made the decision to go back to school in 2004 after being out of school for over 15 years. She first got her GED in November 2004 and then started attending Tennessee's Walter State Community College in June 2005.

Kimberly faced some early setbacks when coming back to school. She had trouble accessing good advising when she first enrolled. She started by enrolling with major courses instead of doing a general education classes and then she transferred to a 4 year college.

She is a business management major, emphasising in paralegal studies. She feels like, with proper advising, she would have went to Walter State for 2 years, transferred to a 4 year college and went on to Nashville School of Law. As for now, she will graduate in May 2008 with a business management degree and paralegal certification. She plans to work in a law office for the experience, and continue on to get a B.S. degree and then go to law school. Ultimately she plans on being a lawyer by the time she is 45 years old, but she realizes that being a non traditional student, she has to leave herself some buffer room for life’s little bumps.
